Berserker 2004 - Expedition to Owl Lake

Dale chooses the point were we leave the road. She has the GPS but Greg is not all that sure about this route...

But Dale is correct and we quickly run into the creek. So close to Owl Lake there is more water in the creek but it is harder to follow since the banks tend to be swampy and overgrown.

Greg seems to be underwhelmed and Dale happily applies yet another layer of DET. The lake has to be around here someplace!

Perhaps climbing this rather under-strength tree will tell us if the maps and GPS are correct.

Success! There is a lake out there after all - not that you could tell from ground level.

This strange stone circle indicates that other explorers reached this spot before us. Perhaps they perished in an attempt to reach the shore of the fabled Owl Lake.

Not wishing to join these long lost explorers this expedition stops just short of the shore. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a "shore" as such with swamp simply merging into lake!

Then it's back along the creek feeding the mosquitoes and flies along the way.

A good view of why following the creek was so difficult near the lake. The vegetation was literally overgrowing over the creek - still a lot of water was flowing.

On the way back a "bat house" was found over a mine entrance. This was put up by John M. a fellow GT member. Some real good blueberry and thimbleberry patches were also found but their location remains secret...
